The Ivymount community is both celebrating the life and mourning the passing of Dr. Joette James, a clinical neuropsychologist. Dr. James was a dear friend to Ivymount and a member of our Corporate and Outreach Boards since 2011. Susan Holt, Executive Director of Ivymount, shared, “She was such a talented and treasured member of our community. We will all miss Joette’s active engagement and laughter at our board meetings and feel the loss to our community in her advocacy and service to those we serve.”
Dr. James specialized in the diagnosis and assessment of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders, as well as the neuropsychological evaluation of individuals with learning disorders, executive functioning problems, and neurological disorders such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, and epilepsy. She was on the Children’s National Medical Center faculty, an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and Pediatrics at George Washington University and was on the medical staff at HSC Pediatric Center.
Through her private practice, Dr. James devoted countless hours to evaluating children and young adults, including many Ivymount School students. She also consulted on complex legal issues involving adolescents and adults with disabilities who are involved with the justice system.
Ivymount School Education Director Amy Alvord shared, “Dr. James’s dedication to her work and her impact on the community will be greatly missed. Her expertise and compassion touched the lives of so many.”
